June Martino
June Martino (August 10, 1917 – January 29, 2005) was an American businesswoman who became Ray Kroc’s bookkeeper in 1948 and ultimately rose to Corporate Secretary, Treasurer, Director, and part-owner of McDonald’s Corporation.
Martino, a native of Chicago, was married to Louis Martino, who owned and operated an early McDonald’s restaurant in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, established the company’s original research facility in Addison, Illinois in 1961, and preceded June in death 10 years ago. The Martinos had two sons, John and Joel.

June Martino was the glue that held the early McDonald’s organization together. Her keen insight into people brought some of the company’s early talent into the fold, and she earned the unofficial title of “vice president of equilibrium” and the affectionate nickname, “Mother Martino.” June and Louis married shortly before World War II. When she took papers to the Army personnel office to exempt Louis from service because of his critically important work on coaxial cable for Western Electric, she found herself caught up by patriotism and joined the service herself.
As a WAC, June studied electronics at Northwestern University, learning trigonometry and calculus through extensive tutoring, since she had no special aptitude for higher math. During the war, she worked in the U.S. Army Signal Corps on tasks ranging from testing radar systems to trouble-shooting work on airplane radio systems.
